Arya decides to take Eragon sightseeing. They meet the Werecat Maud and the ancient elf Rhunön before visiting the Menoa Tree, the oldest tree in the forest of Du Weldenvarden. While there, Arya tells Eragon of the tree's origin. The story is of the elf Linnëa, who fell in love with a younger elf. After her love betrays her for a younger woman, Linnëa kills him and his lover. Arya then asks Eragon if he sees the connection between Linnëa's story and his relationship with her. This implies that Arya was aware of Eragon's attraction to her. He admits his mistake with Elva to Arya.
