The Trial of the Long Knives

The Trial of the Long Knives was a contest in which each contestant had to cut their forearm with a knife. Each of the competitors cut themselves in turn. The contestant who inflicts the least number of cuts or who passes out would lose the contest. Each arm could only be cut six times, so if both arms are fully cut, then the contest would end in a tie.

Nasuada was forced to undergo the trial when her leadership of the Varden was challenged by Fadawar, a relative of her mother's kinsman. She won and gained the admiration and loyalty of many others.
