During this chapter of Eldest, Eragon makes up with Arya and she reveals that she is preparing to leave Ellesméra. Also during Eragon and Saphira's training Glaedr teaches them about separating their consciousnesses to prepare them for when they are separated. He also teaches them about the original Riders and how the pact between dragons and elves was formed.
Later, finding himself unable to enjoy a meal with no meat, Eragon decides to join Saphira in her hunting. He uses magic to capture a brace of rabbits but finds himself unable to eat creatures that he has shared his mind with. He decides that he no longer consume another animal's flesh, and when Saphira questions the choice, he states that it is his personal decision and that he will not force it on others.
