Selena

Selena was a female human, spy and assistant of Morzan, and the mother of Murtagh and Eragon. She also had her fortune told by Angela, and she was horrified by what it included.
Concerning Brom's description, it's questionable as to why Selena would fall in love with Morzan, as they were very different. However, in Eragon, Murtagh says that his father did not love Selena, only showed her affection while keeping his true self hidden. He then manipulated her, and she followed, loving his exterior but not knowing of his interior.

Selena, though she has not yet made a physical appearance, can be compared to Padmé of Star Wars. This is because she's the mother of the main character (Luke Skywalker for Padmé and Eragon for Selena). She also loved a villain, Morzan, who is believed to be Eragon's father, yet we learnt in Brisinger that Eragon is actually Brom's son. There are three differences between the births:
- She gave birth to two sons, not a son and daughter.
- The births were separate births, as Murtagh was a few years old before Eragon was born.
- Eragon was born away from home, at Carvahall

Though Selena loved Morzan, she also loved Brom. There is certain evidence for this theory, especially on the Shur'tugal forums:
- Eragon grew up to be very much like Brom, instead of like Morzan. It is to be noted that Murtagh had certain of Morzan's traits (such as his voice), whereas Oromis comments that Eragon is much like Brom, always asking questions.
- Angela mentions after Brom's death was that his wyrd (=fate) was to fail at all but one thing. His love 'doomed' a woman, which fitted Selena being Brom's love (she ended up dying, after all).
- There is also the fact of Eragon and Murtagh's dragon partners. Saphira, who is Eragon's, is blue while it is theorized that Brom's Saphira was blue judging by the name. Thorn is Red and as of Eldest Murtagh is now holding Zar'oc which he took from Eragon. We can also assume that Morzan's dragon was red, since Rider's swords are the same color as their dragons, and Zar'roc is red.
In Brisingr, it is revealed that she fell in love with Brom and bore Eragon because of him.
