Spells were words or phrases in the Ancient Language that magic users spoke to control and use magic. The following is a list of spells used in Inheritance.

The translation is the same. |Spoken by Eragon. |- |Eitha |To go or leave |Typically combined in a sentence with other words to push something away. |Spoken by Eragon. |- |Eyddr eyreya onr |Empty your ears |Used to make someone temporarily deaf. |Spoken by Arya. |- |Garjzla |Light |Typically used to hurl a bolt or ball of light at someone, either killing them or rendering them unconscious. |Spoken by Durza. |- |Garjzla letta |Light, stop |Used to reflect light from a being's eyes so it doesn't enter the pupil, thus rendering the being blind. |Spoken by Eragon against the Lethrblaka |- |Gath sem oro un lam iet |Unite that arrow with my hand |Used (by Eragon) to retrieve an arrow. |Spoken by Eragon. |- |Gath un reisa du rakr |Unite and raise the mist |Used to unite and raise the mist. Also used by Murtagh to stop Saphira from attacking him. |- |Skölir |Shield |Typically used to shield the caster from harm, such as redirecting fire to pass harmlessly around the caster. |Spoken by Eragon and Murtagh. |- |Skölir nosu fra brisingr! |Shield us from fire! |Used by Eragon to divert flames away from himself and Saphira. |Spoken by Eragon |- |Slytha |Sleep |Used to put a person to sleep. |Spoken by Eragon. |- |Thverr stenr un atra eka hórna! |Traverse stone and let me hear! |Used to eavesdrop on a conversation through a stone wall. |Spoken by Eragon |- |Thyrsta |Thrust, compress |Used thrust, compress things. Typically combined in a sentence with other words to thrust something. Eragon used it to stop a man's heart while escaping from Gilead |Spoken by Eragon. |- |Thrysta vindr |Compress the air |Used to send balls of air at enemies |Spoken by Murtagh |- |Waíse heill |Be healed |A healing spell, used to mend physical wounds but can "only mend what is on the surface" |Spoken by Eragon. |}

Spell Description Spell caster
Brisingr Fire Used by Eragon through arrows or to destroy rocks flung at him by the Shade Durza. Also used by Brom to start a fire.
Ma’mor Used to unlock doors that are locked. Spoken by Eragon.
Morte Used to throw things, such as axes from the nearby walls. Spoken by Durza.
Skulblakas ven Used to enable the caster to see what his/her dragon sees. Spoken by Eragon (In Eragon, this was done automatically when a dragon rider joined his/her mind with his/her dragon during flight). It was also used when Eragon tried to find out which cell Arya was in in Gil'ead
Kvistr Kvistr means branch. Kvistr is spoken by Eragon to strangle a Ra'zac with a vine.
Traevam Tree(Tall Bush) Brom taught this to Eragon. Used in the forest to subdue the Ra'zac
Risa Used to make objects levitate Spoken by Durza to launch a spear at Eragon. Brom jumped in front of the javelin and was mortally wounded.
"...Draumr abr Sundablaka..." Draumr means dream, Abr means of, Sunda means shadow, Blaka means "flapper" Spoken by Durza to create a shadowy bat-like mount for himself
