Inheritance is the 70th chapter of Eldest. It take the point of view of Eragon
Summary[]
In this chapter, Saphira and Eragon find out that the other Rider that they fought was Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn (who is red). Murtagh answered many questions Eragon had, such as saying he was the one who scryed Eragon and that the Twins took control of a group of Urgals to ambush Ajihad. Galbatorix made Murtagh swear in the Ancient Language that he would not betray him and taught him spells "so powerful, the elves dare not utter them". When Eragon asks why they are to be captured, Murtagh says that Saphira is the only female dragon in the world because the last egg is a male. Then, Eragon and Murtagh have a mental and magic battle, in which Murtagh wins, even though he is still human. Afterward, he takes Zar'roc from Eragon as his inheritance, saying, "Besides, Zar'roc should have gone to Morzan's eldest son, not his youngest." Murtagh then repeats that they are brothers in the Ancient Language, and then flies off with Thorn.
Trivia[]
The tite of this chapter is the same as the title of the final book in the Inheritance Cycle. It is unknown whether the name of the last book was influenced by this chapter but Paolini has said that he intends to name his next Inheritance book after one of the chapters in Inheritance.
