The Herndall were a group of twelve female Urgals who led their race as a council. Their members were usually old and presumably quite wise. They wore robes patterned with knots which bore their clan's crest. Each also carried a stick carved with patterns that held no meaning to humans but were not meaningless.
The twelve dams that held council at lake Fläm held their council in a low, circular hut filled with the smoke of burning juniper and cedar. The wicker doorway was barely large enough for Saphira's head.
Herndall was also the title given to the women of the council, much as warchiefs are called Nar.
