And I am Gannel, son of Orm Bloodaxe and clan chief of Dûrgrimst Quan.— Gannel

Gannel was the clan chief of Dûrgrimst Quan[1] and the dwarf priest who tutored Eragon in Dwarven customs and religion after Eragon was invited to be a part of Dûrgrimst Ingeitum.[2]

When giving Eragon had a tour of Celbedeil, Gannel presented Eragon with a necklace imbued with magic properties to stop anyone scrying the wearer.[2]

Appearance[]

Gannel was a well-built dwarf with the shoulder and chest of a warrior with hooded black eyes.[1] He wore the robes of the priest.[2]

Powers and Abilities[]

Although Gannel was very old, he was incredibly skilled and an expert at fighting with the hûthvír, disarming and beating three other dwarves simultaneously.[2]

Gannel was also a skilled magician, placing the enchantment on Eragon's necklace himself.[2]

Campaign for Grimstnzborith[]

Following Hrothgar's death, Gannel originally wanted to be king and had a small backing of two other clan chiefs, Ûndin, chief of Dûrgrimst Ragni Hefthyn, and Hadfala, chief of Dûrgrimst Ebardac. When this failed, Gannel voted for Nado as the dwarf king. Orik was furious about this and said "Gannel has been playing against me." He also affected the vote of other clan chiefs, because of the Quan's large influence.

Duties[]

As a priest, Gannel was responsible for the rites and rituals to appease the gods. Also, as high priest to the dwarves, he preformed the invocation of Gûntera for Orik's coronation.
