Eragon[]

Eragon may be able to stay in Alagaësia because the book clearly stated that "If something is changed enough, its true name will also change". Therefore, When Galbatorix is defeated, Alagaësia will be so changed that it will no longer be the same place and he will be able to stay. This can't be true because Angela says no matter what path he takes he will still have to leave Alagaësia and Eragon's dream supports the prophecy. Eragon may leave Alagaesia, i believe, and remember the scene with the Menoa tree? In it Eragon gave his word in the ancient language that he will do anything once Galbatorix is dead. The tree might ask him, as revenge for Saphira burning it, to leave Alagaesia forever. But, Eragon's guide to Alagaesia makes it seem as though Eragon was still in Alagaesia when he wrote it, so perhaps Alagaesia will be such a changed place that Eragon will be able to stay, as its true name would have changed. Then again, his true name is still unknown,g tand perhaps the character Eragon kills will be Thorn, and Murtag, wishing revenge, when held at sword point by Eragon will use his true name and the true name of Alagaesia by allowing a spirit to posess him and using the extra magic as the last thing he does, so Murtag Shade will force the prophecy upon Eragon, although like i just said that perhaps Alagaesia could be a completely changed place afterwards it is still possible that it will not be, and Eragon will have to twist the meaning of the oath. Perhaps Murtag Shade will make Eragon sail straight into the Boar's Eye, and tell him never to return to Alagaesia. Then again, the charecter Eragon kills can be, do not laugh at me for even suggesting this, Islenzardi! In Brisingr it gave a view of Islenzardi that showed her as more of a cruel figure, and it showed the same in Eragon's guide to Alagaesia, although it spoke of her more as an alive person in the guide. The dungeon was confirmed not to be Galbatorix's, so perhaps Eragon somehow offends Islenzardi and he is sent to the dungeon, but this raises the question of Arya and Eragon. Perhaps it will work, perhaps not. Mabye Arya will kill Islenzardi! My theory on this is that Eragon will be chained and torchered, but Arya will fight through the elf gaurds and free Eragon, although Islenzardi will name a bounty on them for escaping and Arya accidentally killing an elf. All Islenzardi's feelings for Arya will be replaced by hatred for the dead elf, and she will remove Arya's inheritance, naming her an outcast. She will or will not confess her love for Eragon, and they will flee Du Weldenvarden after a long treck through the forest, and Eragon or Arya will be forced to return and kill Islenzardi, then the elves will or will not accept Arya and/or Eragon as their king. I think Eragon will defeat Galbatorix but not kill him. Remember when Eragon returns to the Varden in Book 3 after he discovers Sloan's true name, Eragon says that he will never become an executioner therefore I don't think that he will kill Galbatorix but rather find a way to free Shruikan and take the Eldunarí away from Galbatorix. This ties into Eragon's dream in that Galbatorix is the man crying on the sand. Also in Eragon's dream I think the man and woman getting on the boat is Eragon and Arya with Saphira and "Greeni" flying over. I say its Eragon because I think that he`s going back to Vroengard with Arya and her dragon (yes I believe Arya is the new rider) to build the legacy of the Riders again. The Rock of Kuthian I believe is in Utgard. Firstly because if you recall in Book 1 when Eragon and Brom ride past Utgard Brom tells the story of how Vrael died. It is widely believed that Eragon will defeat Galbatorix. (Angela said Eragon would be immortal or have a long life. Remember the rock of Kuthain and the vault of Souls? They are going to be critical to Eragons defeat of Galbatorix. What happened:

1) Vrael, after being wounded by Galby, flees to Utgard with a collection of Eldunarí

2) Knowing he will soon be killed Vrael builds the vault of souls

3) He hides Eldunarí inside, and seals the vault so that a noble rider (as determined by the true name) could open the vault and gain the power to defeat Galby71.235.78.151 20:15, November 6, 2011 (UTC)

It has been confirmed in an interview with Paolini that as of August 22, 2010 there is a part where Eragon kills a character and he (Eragon) is hanging from manacles. Paolini also said at this time he is nearing the end of the manuscript, so this part is most likely at the end of the book. He also said that the Eragon's imprisoner is not Galbatorix. He could be a prisoner of Elva, if she decides to fight against Eragon, or of Nasuada, if she attempts to eliminate or control all magic users, or Murtagh, if he becomes independent of Galbatorix but still opposes Eragon. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. Remember Eragon's dream, in the first book? It Says of a women and a man boarding a ship with two dragons in the air, and also a man left behind, crying out. This could be taken many ways. I assume, that the green dragon will hatch for a female. The female and male on the ship are most likely Eragon and Arya, with their dragons. However, the dragon will hatch for a certain number of people, but they have been in all three books: Nasuada, Elva, Arya, Angela, Katrina (only women in this assumption) and others I will not mention. The dragon egg could hatch for Nasuada, and it could be Eragon on the ship with her, there is a chance they could be together. It could also be Murtagh and Nasuada. Murtagh fancies her in Eragon. This is unlikely, but I thought I could show many aspects. The pained man could be Eragon, they could have taken him from Alagaësia themselves.. It Also could be the people with the dragons are not the women and the man, but the man on the boat, and the one on land, or the woman on the boat could be Katrina and Roran with her, and Eragon was on the shore. My real point is that the dream isn't really straightforward enough to presume anything. The egg could hatch for quite a few people. The ones I mentioned above, and the men and women from Carvahall. Orik, Roran. However if I was to take my own guess it would be like others and that it was an Elvish ship (it states the appearance of the ship in the dream) It being Arya and Eragon with their dragons. With Murtagh or Roran on the shore. I do agree with the fact that Eragon will leave, Saphira and another dragon (Greeni) will become mates and they will all live a long time/forever and have many eggs. Not in Alagaësia though. Hrothgar mentions the time of the dragon riders will never return.. may not be true, but I think it is. I think the dragons will be somewhere else, but still live on. Maybe even find more Dragons. This is getting long so I'll try to be brief. I think Eragon will learn the name of the Ancient Language. I hope he kills Galbatorix and his fight is epic, unlike the fight with Durza where he surely would have lost without a major distraction. I am curious to the seven words Brom gave Eragon, and I hope he will tell us Eragon's true name. Also I hope Murtagh lives, just is good. It seems like too much of a Happily Ever After, but I like Murtagh, and I chose to believe he is a good man, and I want him to prove that he is no real son of Morzan, which is true since he was too cruel to be called much of a father. How about the "dark shadow" in Eragon's guide to Alagaësia? It could kill one of Eragon's elf helpers (Blodhgarm?) and imprison him. Saphira could be killed in the final battle (or in another way), thus losing the last known female dragon, this would tie in to several things. One, the Inheritance title, the one who Inherits will NOT be Eragon, but the Rider of the Green Dragon and possibly Murtagh (the two dragons in the prophecy being Thorn and Greenie), Eragon then leaves Alagaësia to search the lands beyond the sea for more Dragons with Arya, thus fulfilling the prophecy of him leaving forever as well. When the werecat, Solembum, gives Eragon this advice, "When all seems lost, and your power is insufficient, go to the rock of Kuthian and speak your name to the vault of souls." This means that Eragon needs to learn his true name to open the Vault of Souls, which could possibly hold more Eldunarí (though it is believed he would need a long time to enlist the will of the dragons to serve his cause, but Galbatorix only took a long time because he was set on enslaving the dragons. They would likely assist Eragon of their own free will, though, if only to save the Eldunarí that Galbatorix enslaved). The Rock of Kuthian could be the sapphire on ring that Brom gave Eragon, as when Eragon told Oromis of Solembum's prediction, Oromis said the name rang a bell.Or the rock of Kuthian could be the Eldunarí of an ancient dragon who would have a wisdom needed, or of one of the Forsworn's dragons (they lost their name and it would explain why Oromis and Arya recognized it but could not recall where from.) this could mean that Eragon could learn insider knowledge about Galbatorix's weaknesses. it could also be the hiding place of one of the Forsworns' dragons. this would support the idea that is was Helgrind as it could have belonged to the Forsworn before the Ra'zac. he may have to speak his name to convince the Eldunarí (which is the likely explanation as to what the vault of souls is) to convince the dragons that they should help him and he will not harm them. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. One other theory is Eragon will bring someone back from the Vault of Souls, or open the Vault of Souls, only to become strong and wise. Eragon I isn't nessecarily dead yet. And Vault of Souls probably DOES NOT mean bringing a soul back, it's probably a huge Vault full of Eldunari.

The Rock of Kuthian does not yet have a specified location. After some research though I think that it is safe to say that the vault of souls is inside the Rock of Kuthian and that the Rock of Kuthian is Helgrind for the following reasons. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. 1. When Eragon corners the final Ra'zac the Ra'zac offers to tell Eragon the "name" that Galbatorix has supposedly almost discovered. This name is obviously his true name. You have to speak your true name into the vault of souls to open it so this means that Galbatorix may have some idea where the Rock of Kuthian is. But then why would the Ra'zac know he was trying to find a name? The answer is that they were sent by Galbatorix to guard the Rock of Kuthian and it is located inside Helgrind.

2. Helgrind is worshiped and considered sacred. This may be because of the ancient dragon Eldunarí. This would create a powerful legend in the area and may give Helgrind a sort of magic pulse or essence.

3. Helgrind is also a mountain and it would fit the description Rock of Kuthian. That is just another small point.

4. The Ra'zac's lair is well hidden enough to be the Rock of Kuthian. It can only be reached by something that can fly (dragons). And the Ra'zac knew that Galbatorix was looking for a name, the name that could open the Vault of Souls located in the Rock of Kuthian. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. Galbatorix would like to know Eragon's name, but what he's really looking for would be the name for the ancient language. Like you said the Ra'zac offer to tell him "the name" it's going to mean that he's searching for the true name of the ancient language. You need to think before you write. I believe Kuthian may be the name of one of the Forsworn as Arya and Oromis recognize it but cannot quite work out who it is. This would mean that the rock could be his Eldunarí, I think that he may regret his actions and therefore guide Eragon to the vault of souls. Which is where the wild dragons hid there Eldunarí before they made the pact with the elves. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. I highly doubt this although it sounds fairly good, but it was the name of the Forsworns' dragons not the forsworn themselves that could not be remembered. Also i think that the rock is probably part of a legend of the elves thus Oromis and Arya have heard of it, therefor perhaps the elf children know (i also think that they will help Eragon out anyway because of their special powers and there interest in him.) Eragon might kill Murtagh and/or Thorn. While they were enslaved by Galbatorix, there was conflict between these Riders. Or Thorn might go away with Saphira and Eragon out of Alagaësia, like in Eragon's dream in first book. The long painful cry could be Murtagh's, since Thorn is leaving him.It could be that Thorn is killed by Eragon and Murtagh couldn't avenge him. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. 1. When Eragon has his fortune told Angela seems surprised when he mentions Brom and seems to know him.

2. She says that she foretold his mothers fate but wouldn't tell him what it was and that Solembum sort of found her. I think that the woman she referred to as Eragon's mother was herself and that Solembum found Eragon's mother.

3. Angela also could've been the Black hand because of her skill. She in one part of the book sneaks into the enemy camp and poisons them. She gets back out unseen.

4. Solembum also talks with Eragon and is not supposed to do that to many of Angela's customers and Angela herself seemed surprised. If Angela was Eragon's mother that would be a good reason for him to talk to Eragon. She says only three were spoken to by Solembum the woman (Angela) the blind beggar (Brom) and Eragon.

Impossible. It says in the first book that Selena came to Carvahall when she was pregnant with Eragon and he was born 5 months after her arrival. She begged Garrow and Marian to raise him then left. Very unique theory! However I do not think that Angela would be Selena (The Black Hand) for two reasons. 1) Angela's personality is just to sporadic and cheerful to be the same person who was responsible for the quickly, stealthly executed plots by Selena. 2) On the dedication page of Book 1: Eragon, Christopher states, "This book is dedicated to my mom... my dad... And also my sister, Angela, for helping when I'm 'blue'." I highly doubt that he would have made a character modeled after his sister the most deadly and evil character in the series. An unlikely outcome would be that Eragon grabs the green egg, teleports it to the Varden, and before he can escape, is murdered by our good friend Galbatorix. Eragon will use Brom's blessing from book 1. Brom asked Eragon to take his blessing. Eragon agrees to. Book 1 Chapter Legacy of a Rider, "Eragon bowed his head and nodded, overcome. Brom placed a trembling hand on his brow. 'Then I give it to you. May the coming years bring you great happiness.' He motioned to Eragon to bend closer. Very quietly, he whispered seven words from the ancient language, then even more softly told him what they meant. 'That is all I can give you... Use them only in great need.'" If Eragon kills Galbatorix, he and Arya might finally become romantically involved. Oromis stated that Arya is proud of Eragon. Also, in the Eragon chapter, "The Witch and the Werecat", it states that Eragon will love one of noble birth (plausibly Arya). Eragon is already in love with Arya, and Angela only predicted that Eragon would fall in love with one of noble birth, and she also said that she did not know whether that relationship would work out or not. In Eldest, when they go on a walk to learn of the Menoa Tree, Blagden (the enchanted white raven) shouts "Wyrda" or fate. In Eldest, Eragon found only a couple of relationships between elves and humans (one also being a Rider), and that they didn't end well. Elves do not believe in marriage. Also, even if Arya reciprocated Eragon's desires, she would not act on them because of her duties to her people and the Varden. Oromis said she was afraid he would get distracted from his lessons, so if there is no more conflict, perhaps Arya will reveal her true feelings. Also, Eragon is part elf and part human, and Arya is an elf. However, Oromis said in Eldest that she has spent so much time with humans as an ambassador and that she is more human than most elves.Maybe she will leave with Eragon from Alagaësia, she might be the women in his dream in the first book. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. His lover may also be Nasuada. She is of noble birth, and it does suggest Eragon having possible feeling for her. One uncommon yet possible theory is that Nasuada will become the Rider of the last egg, and she will become immortal. Eragon will fall in love with her, they marry, (Eragon and Arya may still be friends) and Saphira and Dragon #3 will mate. Happily ever after. It was formerly speculated that Eragon might find Eragon I and Bid'Daum (there was no evidence that they were dead). They could help him in the fight against Galbatorix. While Eragon was with Oromis for the last time, Oromis said he would search his scrolls for any mention of the Vault of Souls. Eragon's new technique of transporting items from one place to another was never used in the third book. This may play an intrinsic role in the fourth book, either by transporting Eldunarí from Galbatorix, or with other items of great value. Eragon could somehow discover the true source of magic, the place where magic comes from, the place where dragons call upon magic (Brisingr page 635). It is likely that Galbatorix is searching for the same word and will succeed in finding it, as the Ra'zac told Eragon that Galbatorix had almost found 'the name'. Part of Eragon's true name almost certainly includes Brisingr. It is the first word of magic he used (book 1), his sword (book 3) turns into fire, Saphira and he said they "balance each other out", i.e. water and fire, he called himself death of the shadows (i.e. light), he then was the death of the shadows when he killed the Shade with his sword on fire (book 1), the origin of the word Eragon might be fire, the sword Brisingr was created to kill Galbatorix (the ancient elvish smith, Rhunön, said so), just like Eragon might have been "created" to kill Galbatorix, and if that is the true name of the sword, it might be his, and Galbatorix has a black dragon and fire fights the dark, and most importantly, when Brom said brisingr on the plains, he shivered and felt more alive (book 1), just like Sloan felt when Eragon said his true name (book 3). When he explained to Oromis about his sword catching fire Oromis says "I wonder ..." Also, when Eragon returns to Nasuada and Arya after the Battle of the Burning Plains, Arya murmurs: "The candle still burns", referring to Eragon. This seems an odd figure of speech, and it hints that Arya may know Eragon's true name (candle = flame = fire = Brisingr). A hole in this theory is that whenever Eragon says that word, it isn't mentioned that it makes him feel any different, and Eragon would have known that it was his soulname. Also, he may have felt more alive when Brom said it because the part of his mind where he goes to draw out magic sensed magic being used. But that doesn't mean Brisingr couldn't be part of his name. Eragon will probably only know his true name when he hears all of it. His True name could be a mixture of the word for fire in the ancient language "Brisingr" and the saying ' Death of the shadows' which was mentioned above also he was called a 'candle' bye Arya (but she says she couldn't guess his name at the same time) my estimate at his name (random but just think this fits) is "Fire in the Shadows" or "before the shadows". the shadows being Galbatorix and all he has to face in the future and a reference to killing Durza which most definitely changed his personality and maybe his true name without his knowing, this is backed up by previous quotes and also he was said to be "blazing like the sun" by the blind man. Though "brisingr" is the true name only of fire, that (presumably) does not mean that it can not be part of the true name of another thing or individual. Both of the above theories are defeated because in Eragon's dream in Brisingr, it says that it is Eragon's father who is with him and this is supported by the fact that Eragon's father has Zar'roc. This leads one to assume that it is Morzan. This is false. Brom is with Eragon in the dream. This is because the eyes of Eragon's father in the dream are said to be blue, when Jeod says to Eragon earlier in Brisingr that Morzan's eyes are different colours (One blue, one brown). This shows that it is Brom because Morzan doesn't have two blue eyes. Also, Brom stole Zar'roc from Morzan when he killed Morzan and his dragon, that is why Eragon's father is carrying Zar'roc. Also Glaedr mentioned that Eragon knew who his father was all along, only sub-consciously, and he couldn't think of the knowledge himself. This is what the dream means, Eragon knows that Brom is his father because his father has blue eyes and was one carrying Zar'roc. One possible theory is that Christopher Paolini is trying to trick the audience into thinking that the reader in Eragon's dream is Morzan because he is carrying Zar'roc. This is supported by the fact that when Eragon is with the Varden and is choosing a sword, Fredric, the Varden's weapon-master says that a great warrior is recognized by his blade. An interesting point that will require further thought. Think on thins point, though. Why would Paolini send Eragon on a quest with a man that's actually his father, have Eragon witness his death, and then find out his father was the accursed Morzan, only to somehow twist it back to the point where he Finds out Brom was his father and that figures like Saphira and Oromis knew the entire time? To bring Brom back would almost diminish the significance of this plot thread, but could expand it to something greater. Eragon could retain contact with his father at some point in Book 4, that is a more likely scenario. A speculative side note, that Eragon does not get harmed by wild animals when he is hunting in the Spine, therefore he doesn't fear it. I also think that it is the name of the ancient language that the Raz'ac were referring to. In the very first book Brom says that knowing this name will give you control over everyone who uses the ancient language. This would allow Galbatorix to defeat not just Eragon but every single magic user. And about Angela being Eragon's mother, I don't believe that. Why wouldn't she have revealed herself to Eragon or to Brom. Why wouldn't Brom have recognized her. Also she would have to do a really good job of faking her own death to fool Morzan. And anyway, Selena may have been a powerful magician but she was neither a Rider nor an elf, she would still age. I'm quite sure that the woman who's future Angela told was Selena, Angela said that it was a dark future and Selena was going to have bad things happen to her and she was going to die soon. Also, as a powerful magic user, it is likely that she would be able to speak with Solembum. Who the blind beggar is will I think be explored in book 4 because they must be someone important for Solembum to speak to them. Has anyone considered that Eragon might not leave Alagaësia? Oromis said that Angela's predictions may come true, they may not. Also, the new Rider is undoubtedly Arya. For one, she already is trained and would be of immediate use. Also, if they were both Riders, Eragon and Arya could be in a relationship. Also, if Eragon does bring back someone from the Vault of Souls, we can discard Hrothgar, Vrael, and Eragon 1. Hrothgar because he died so Orik could be king. Bringing him back to life would defeat him dying in the first place. I definitely agree that the new Rider is Arya. Everything above fits perfectly. Also, in Eragon's dream in Book 1, he sees two dragons flying above the ship, and a man and a woman are walking towards the ship. Eragon could be the man and Arya the woman. I don't think Roran would be the next Rider, as his wife Katrina would still be mortal, The last Rider could be someone we haven't even met yet. What if Orik and the dwarves come forth and decide they want to pact in the ancient language so they may have the chance to be Riders too? Although the most sensible Rider would be Arya, if Eragon is to achieve his happily ever after perfectly, but Paolini is known for his twists. Also, she's an elf, and anyone less powerful that an elf wouldn't do, because even Eragon had to be changed for he was too weak as human. Also I believe there should be another excerpt with Rhunön. She said there was enough brightsteel to make several swords, and with another Rider coming, he or she will obviously need one. That, or the Rider will take on Tamerlein that belonged to Lord Fiolr, who offered to let Eragon borrow it. The sword was green, as will be the last dragon. But i doubt that, and would rather believe something will happen with Rhunön. As for the vault of souls, i doubt Eragon will bring someone back to life. Solembum's first riddle was not even that blunt. Eragon did not find a weapon under the Menoa tree, but something helpful when he needed one. So when he needs power, the only thing i can come up with is that perhaps the vault of souls is simply where an incredulous amount of energy is stored, or maybe the "souls" inside give him wisdom. Brom said himself that in order to defeat Galbatorix, strength was not a variable, but wisdom in knowing his weaknesses and such. I think it's to pat and boring for Arya to become the new Rider, thought it is quite possible and there are some valid points. Arya is skilled in magic, already trained, and her eyes and magic are green. I hope there's a twist though. If both Eragon and Arya are Riders, its too much of a happy ending. And I absolutely do not think or hope that the new Rider will be Roran. A mixture of my own reasons and some I've seen from others support this. Katrina would stay mortal, and being a Rider would interfere with if not destroy any simple farm life in Carvahall he hoped to have with Katrina. And, being a Rider would ruin Roran's character. What was so good about him was that he could defeat anybody by sheer determination, and do anything for Katrina. He was the one who showed Carvahall how to evade the Empire. He was the one who killed the twins. He was the one who won a wrestling match with an Urgal. All without magic. If he's a Rider, it takes all his depth of character away. And honestly, he doesn't seem like the Rider type in my opinion. This makes sense because Eragon has expressed interest in them in the past, and because spirits have been mentioned multiple times in the books, by Brom, Oromis, and Arya, and they've appeared to him and Arya without causing either of them harm, except for a singed hair. It is also noted that the spirits are attracted to the use of magic, which is how Eragon attracted them, and a true name is one of the most powerful kinds of magic. It is even possible, in a severe plot twist, that Eragon is possessed by spirits and becomes a Shade. Although it isn't likely, it would be ironic, and Brom and Oromis both warned Eragon of the dangers of sorcery and that a Shade who became a Rider would be a terrible abomination, possibly worse than Galbatorix. Even before I saw the above comment, the possibility that the Vault of Souls contained Spirits and that they could posses Eragon did occur to me; on the basis that almost everyone thinks the Vault of Souls contains or is relevant to the Eldunarí,(though they do seem to fit), and I was trying to come up with an alternative twist. If the souls do posses Eragon, I wonder what would happen to Saphira? Would they posses her too so they would both be evil? If Saphira were not affected, she would probably try to stop Eragon. She obviously doesn't want him to be a Shade and unloose evil on Alagaësia. So Saphira might have to kill him, but that would be very difficult for her, clearly, what with their bond and everything. Another thought I had was that maybe Eragon could triumph and overpower the spirits and force them out of his body. While Eragon may leave Alagaësia, Angela does not say when. While I find it foolish to believe that Alagaësia's name may change or something else, he could leave after Galbatorix is defeated (for, in almost every young adult book, the hero wins) and the next generation of riders has been trained. I believe, as do many, and possibly incorrectly, that Arya will have the green dragon. While riders normally get dragons when relatively young, Arya is young for an elf. If Saphira and the green dragon breed, then the eggs may become dragons for new riders. Then, after the knowledge has been passed on, he might move across the seas to the land where the elves came from.

And I also wanted to mention, Eragon's name, when the "E" is replaced by a "D" is "Dragon". I can't belive no one thought of this before: What if, its ERAGON who dies. This clears up a few things:

1)christophor said he would meet Brom again; This could be he meets him in the after life.

Saphira could be killed in the final battle, thus losing the last known female dragon, this would tie in to several things. Most of the above theories cannot be true as Eragon definitely doesn't have an Eldunarí. But the Menoa tree could be keeping a DNA/species archive on the races of the land, and taken something from around his belly area to get a DNA/species sample or something like that. To all who said Saphira lost her fire. Remember Saphira blew fire to show herself to the Varden over Feinster. This happened after the encounter with Menoa Tree. Murtagh's fate[]

What we know:

Murtagh wants to be free of Galbatorix.
He values his freedom and enjoys being a Rider (even though he doesn't fully understand what that means).
Murtagh had said something to Galbatorix's soldiers to make them wonder if they were hunting him (Murtagh) via the king's orders. We have to assume it was treasonous, seditious, or that Murtagh was extremely disgruntled.
Murtagh enjoyed the thought of being the same as Eragon, from "Eldest". With a scar on his back, being a dragon Rider, and what he thought was a full brother.
Murtagh is a shell that holds great power (Galbatorix's enslaved Eldunarí) as we have learned from the man who saw lights/power. The light shone through him, coming from someplace else. (While Eragon himself shone like the sun.)

Murtagh is my favorite character, so I've spent a LOT of time thinking about what could happen to him in book 4. It is my assumption that there will be some sort of final battle thing (duh) and the final conflict will be between Eragon and Murtagh, with Galbatorix basically using Murtagh as his puppet. I assume that either Murtagh will gain the upper hand through the Eldunarí's powers, or Eragon will refuse to kill Murtagh. Either way he'd be faced with the decision of killing Eragon, and will make an incredible effort to rebel against Galbatorix. All and all, I think that Murtagh will one way or the other be the first person to rebel against someone using their name against him successfully, but ultimately it will kill him. Could it be that The eagle was actually Thorn, who was magically shrunk to sneak into the Varden without anyone noticing? Arya, because she has a good heart and exceptional skills in swordplay and magic. Also, she has slain the Shade Varaug (with Eragon's help). Also, the only Riders now are human; Galbatorix, Murtagh, and Eragon, and they are all male; for her to become the next Rider would bring balance to the massing powers. Plus, Eragon is already attracted to her, and if Saphira were to mate with her dragon they would likely end up together as well. However, some may say that Eragon is no longer truly human, but rather somewhere in between human and elf, having been changed by the magic of the dragons in the Agaetí Blödhren (The Blood-Oath Celebration), in which the point of species would be in some ways mute. I think it's entirely possible that the new dragon could enter into Galbatorix's service (it could hatch for someone good but the same thing that happened to Murtagh could happen to them). Thorn's fate[]

Thorn is connected to Murtagh. If they choose to try to break free of Galbatorix and become fugitives, there is a possibility that Galbatorix might attempt to kill him as well. This is made all the more likely because Murtagh had some Hearts of Hearts with him when he fought Eragon in Brisingr, and it was hinted that he had some in Eldest as well. Glaedr bit off the last three feet of Thorn's tail. We have yet to see the effect this will have on him (i.e. his flying, balance, and fighting), though Murtagh will probably be able to heal him. Also, there are three human Riders and no elven Riders at this time. There is also the possibility that Arya could get the sword from the elf lord in Ellesméra. I think that it is very likely that Arya will be the next dragon rider because of the fact that there are no elf riders right now since Oromis and Glaedr died. Eragon, Murtagh, and Galbatorix are all human. I think that a elf rider would balance the riders out. Also, there are no female riders, another thing that would balance them out. I think that it is going to be an elf and she is the only elf that has been in all three books. CP said that the last rider will have been in all three books. She is a lot older than most humans but she is young for elves which negates the whole to old aspect. And her magic and eye color are green which matches the color of the last dragon. In Eldest, Eragon sees green egg fragments in the dragon nests. I'm thinking of an impossible theory but who knows? CP might want to trick us all. Maybe the green dragon has already hatched for Arya. I think somehow Galbatorix took the Eldunarí and Arya has lost contact with her dragon. Arya's magic may have changed green after the dragon hatched for her.

My second theory: There will be no new dragon rider. The green dragon was a wild dragon who hatched and is hiding in the depths of the Du Weldenvarden. Thorn and Shruikan will die and the wild dragon will mate with Saphira. The green wild dragon may be ridden by a member of the garden but it will not have a dragon rider connection. He has yet to help Saphira find other Dragons in the far reaches of the world, as he promised in Eldest.
He has yet to fulfill his oath to kill Murtagh, as he promised after the battle in Eldest.
He has yet to give the Menoa Tree want she wants, as he promised in Brisingr, but Menoa tree has already taken something from him because he felt a punch like feeling in his lower gut... he just doesn't know what it is!
He has yet to visit Horst's pregnant wife Elain, as he promised in Brisingr.
In Brisingr (p 659), "As the ore came to rest on the surface of the rich black soil, Eragon felt a slight twinge in his lower belly. He winced and rubbed at the spot, but the momentary flare of discomfort had already vanished..." This could have been the Menoa tree taking what it wanted, one of his testes. The pain is in the same place as experiencing trauma to the region. I doubt that is likely, however. Perhaps it was the Menoa Tree taking large amount of magic stored in the "energy pools" of Eragon's body. Grey Folk[]

Its possible that the Urgals were descendants of the Grey Folk, and their powers were diminished long ago, and their true identity forgotten. In the Vault of Souls, Eragon could find something that can return their powers to them, and he would travel to the Urgal halls to deliver it to them. If their powers were returned, the Urgals could rise up and take revenge against the King. I don't think the Urgals can be descendants of the Grey Folk, because a dwarf (I forget who) told Eragon that the Urgals came to Alagaësia like th elves and humans. The Menoa Tree may have information on the Grey Folk. The Grey Folk predate the elves, yet the tree may be keeping a DNA archive on the races of the land. (Eragon, while trapped in the hold of the tree, felt an itch/twinge around his gut after he consented to give the Menoa Tree whatever she/it wanted.) So someone important has to die in Book 4, either Roran or Arya. Eragon would not leave so easily without them. As for the next dragon Rider, it has to be Arya, Roran, or Katrina. If there is even another dragon Rider at all. Perhaps the last egg was smashed on accident, and Eragon and Saphira leave to find a mate for Saphira. Something extreme has to happen for Eragon to leave forever, including the death of Galbatorix. I think Murtagh survives, but his dragon is killed. Also, what did the Menoa tree take from Eragon? Eragon's dream in the first book it mentioned "Silver-haired" people boarding a boat with two people that were taller than them. What if these silver haired people are the Grey Folk? (Silver=Grey Folk) Perhaps the Grey Folk are not extinct, but out of the known reaches of Alagaësia gaining back the strength they lost binding magic to their native language. After Eragon defeats Galbatorix (with the help of the Gray Folk?), he must leave Alagaësia and does so with his companion (Arya or the New Rider?) and the Grey Folk. If Eragon does indeed discover the true name of the ancient language and the Grey Folk are still around, it makes sense that they would know of his discovery. Tenga[]

He was Angela's old mentor/teacher, though we can only suspect the subject(s) of her education. Angela was thought to be very old, as Oromis informed Eragon that she stayed in Ellesméra for a time, and that she was a remarkable person. If Angela is "ancient", than it is assumed that Tenga is older than her (usually the teacher has more experience, wisdom, and age than the student). Tenga may be a descendant of the Grey Folk. Tenga is suspected to be looking for how to harvest magical energy from fire and light. Eragon asked Oromis if it was possible in Eldest, which Oromis said that "logic says it is possible", but no one has found a spell that can do it. Trees and plants get their energy through sunlight and soil, while fire heat and lightning are all various forms of energy that should be possible to harvest. It is possible that in Book 4 he will find the answer and teach it to Eragon, giving Eragon a huge, if not unlimited, source of energy. Oromis said that if that were possible, than they could defeat Galbatorix in an instant. It is yet another possibility that the energy that Tenga is trying to harvest is/or is related to the "true name' that Galbatorix seeks. I personally believe that this energy is the potential energy locked in matter and he is trying to release it. One possibility is that the true name is of Eragon himself. This could give an advantage to Eragon because Galbatorix thought Morzan was Eragon's father. Galbatorix might have guessed the wrong "true name" of Eragon in this case. If so, he would find out his mistake eventually, because Eragon openly stated that he was Brom's son. Curiosity of the sword Brisingr[]

In Brisingr, when Eragon showed Oromis his Rider sword, and explained its phenomenon of bursting into flames, Oromis did something very subtle and interesting that most likely foreshadowed some of the fourth book. The only words out of his mouth were "I wonder ..." Now, according to other accounts, Selena's only demand was that Eragon be the name of her child. It's possible Oromis knew more than he let on to Eragon. Paolini wrote that Galbatorix killed Shruikan's Rider, and through dark magic and with the help of Morzan, bound Shruikan to himself. Eragon's dream in the first book[]

In Eragon (book), the following dream is described by Eragon:

"He watched as a group of people on proud horses approached a lonely river. Many had silver hair and carried tall lances. A strange, fair ship waited for them, shining under a bright moon. The figures slowly boarded the vessel; two of them, taller than the rest, walked arm in arm. Their faces were obscured by cowls, but he could tell that one was a woman.They stood on the deck of the ship and faced the shore. A man stood alone on the pebble beach, the only one who had not boarded the ship. He threw back his head and let out a long, aching cry. As it faded, the ship glided down the river, without a breeze or oars,out into the flat, empty land. The vision clouded, but just before it disappeared, Eragon glimpsed two dragons in the sky."

There are possible answers to who the two people are on the ship:

Eragon and Arya on the ship, Murtagh crying out.
Roran and Katrina on the ship, Sloan crying out. This is impossible as Sloan cannot leave Ellesméra, even if he could change his true name. (Unless Eragon or the elves approved, Eragon made the curse as punishment and Sloan could be released from it).
Eragon and Arya on the ship, Roran crying out.
Eragon and Nasuada on the ship, Murtagh crying out.
Eragon and Nasuada on the ship, Roran crying out.
Roran and Katrina on the ship, Eragon crying out. This is possible, as Roran swore at his wedding that nothing would stop him from settling down in Palancar valley with Katrina to raise a family. The ship may be leaving a foreign place and going back to Alagaësia.
Murtagh and Nasuada on the ship, Eragon crying out.
Murtagh and Arya on the ship, Eragon crying out.
Eragon and Murtagh on the ship, Galbatorix crying out. This is also impossible, as Eragon's dream stated that there was one man and one woman. An unlikely solution could be that Murtagh just grows his hair out and boards the ship.
Murtagh and Nasuada leaving together with Eragon crying on the beach because Arya was killed.
Murtagh and Arya leaving with Eragon crying, because he was kicked out of Alagaësia (not sure on right spelling) and Arya and Murtagh left him.Dragons could be Saphira and Thorn watching their Riders.
Or, the dream could just be an ordinary dream, and mean absolutely nothing.

As for the two dragons in the sky, there are four possible dragons:

Saphira (highly likely). It was said in the books that the race of dragons was doomed to extinction. If Saphira died and was not part of the dream, Eragon would have been in a different state of mind.
Thorn (likely), as Saphira feels sorry for him. It's also possible that Thorn might rescue Saphira somehow, and she would then see him in a different light and show deep compassionate feelings for each other. Also it could be Murtagh crying out because Thorn had left him and gone with Eragon, Arya and Saphira instead of staying with him.
"Greeni" (likely, as many fans suggest this one is to mate with Saphira).
Shruikan (not very likely, but still an option).

I think it most likely that this is Eragon leaving forever. maybe because that was what the Menoa tree requested. it wanted dragons to leave the land. or he has fulfilled his promise to Saphira to look for wild dragons in other lands. or he came to the logical conclusion that the time of dragon Riders was over and that they must leave Alagaësia (which would support the other dragon flying in the sky with Saphira - if that's who it is- which could belong to the woman on the boat). in any case it seems the logical decision Christopher Paolini would have made when writing that dream as the story had not become more complex by then. it is the most significant thing in Eragon's future and so that is what makes sense. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. i think it highly unlikely that any Rider or dragon would separate. this includes thorn and Murtagh. so if the person on the beach is a Rider i don't think he would be screaming because his dragon has left him but because the people have imprisoned him (unlikely if he is the Rider as he could fly away, unless they forced him to swear in the ancient language), or he has lost his dragon and cant punish them (unlikely because he could always run after them before they go ton the boat... When Eragon's fortune was foretold to him at Teirm, Angela predicted he would leave Alagaësia forever. Angela also said that this time would come to pass no matter which path he chose. Whatever happens, Eragon will leave Alagaësia, no matter which choices he makes. Another fact to be noted is that one of the Ra'zac cursed him while he was in Helgrind that he would find no peace and would leave Alagaësia forever. Most reasonable and greatest possibilities[]

In Angela's prediction, she told that Eragon will leave Alagaësia in a journey to never return, and also, that he would love one of noble birth, which is certainly obvious to be Arya. This might be the last chapter and scene from the fourth book, maybe resembling The Lord of the Rings in The Return of the King at the end, when Frodo leaves The Shire in an elven ship with Bilbo, Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel, and Cirdan. For this, he was allowed passage across the sea to the Undying Lands, as he was as a ring-bearer, to find some semblance of peace from the memory of his past quest. Maybe, this will be the chapter of the Epilogue, after many years that Eragon have trained the New Order of Dragon Riders, and decided the have peace of all his quest in bringing freedom to Alagaësia, and Arya, his love (which in the third book, seems to have feelings for him, maybe repenting for rejecting him before and noticing she really liked him). In short words, it's very possible that those two people in the boat will be Eragon and Arya, and their dragons, Saphira and "Greeni" (in the case that Arya have Greeni hatch for her. She seems to be one of the most possible candidates, cause she's an elf, and also she already knows magic and is very wise, something that will save them time when the times come to train her). The person crying, might not just be one person but lots, cause it was a dream where he saw this, in the dreams sometimes there are used metaphors and signs, not expressly what it is means. Maybe the people crying will be Eragon's and Arya's friends that will miss them. In the case that one person is crying it may be Murtagh: for two possible reasons: 1. he might be mourning the death of Thorn. 2. he might be jealous of the happiness of Arya and Eragon, because Paolini said recently he's killing a character, maybe, after Murtagh escapes Galbatorix, he start having feeling for Nasuada and she dies, and he mourns her death as he watches Arya and Eragon. Other possible companion for Eragon might be Nasuada. And obviously the dragons will be Saphira and Greeni. But we still don't know if Nasuada is of noble birth cause it was never specified if Ajihad was a noble, or something similar. The possibility that one of the dragons will be Thorn seems remote, because with this dream, Paolini gives a clue that the companion of the person in that boat (which will possibly be Eragon or Murtagh, more possibly Eragon) will be a woman (Arya or Nasuada). And there are no woman Riders yet, so maybe the Rider of Greeni might be a woman. If Murtagh is freed and hooks up with Nasuada then he would also cry out if Eragon was on the ship as he they were being torn apart again, he wouldn't be on the ship as he would stay with Nasuada, Eragon is likely to be on the ship as he is told in several prophecies (Angela, Ra'zac etc.) that he will leave the shores of Alagaësia and never return. —The preceding comment was added by an unknown author. Another possibility for Eragon's love interest is Angela, if Paolini decides to be completely spontaneous and throw a huge plot-twist in, but i doubt it would happen. Paolini himself admitted that the character Eragon was originally based off him (this changed as Eragon experienced different events in the books) and Angela is the name of Christopher Paolini's sister. I suspect we may learn quite a bit more about Solembum in Book 4, especially since the werecats are going to be more important to the plot. Maud states that "He finds it amusing to travel with the witch Angela." But for what reason? What motivates Solembum to seek out the company of someone like Angela and what might be his goal? this statement actually makes me curious because werecats are known to be independent, as described in Brisingr. Also, the book I bought (Brisingr) had an excerpt of the fourth chapter of the fourth book, (So don't keep reading this if you don't want anything given away) which was about this group of werecats that had an audience with Nasuada, because they opted to JOIN the Varden. Which is huge, since they represented every single werecat in Alagaësia. Also, Angela was present in Nasuada's tent, and as the werecats passed towards Nasuada they hissed at her and were very hostile. And when Nasuada pleaded for a magician to enter their minds to make sure they weren't under Galbatorix, they agreed only as long as it wasn't Angela. In a recent Q/A with C.P. on Random Buzzers (an online community), there was a question regarding to the wild dragons. The person who had asked the question was wondering whether there are still wild dragons left in Alagaësia, since their unstoppable growth may have imitating them with the natural surroundings (hills, for instance). Instead of answering that all dragons (except for the Forsworn's, Shruikan and Glaedr) had entirely been exterminated by Galbatorix during the Fall, he simply said "No comment". This maybe a hint to the fact that we might encounter more dragons in Book 4, the ones that had escaped Galbatorix's notice.

Since dragons are magical race, they could do things that totally incomprehensible to others, elves included. This could explain how they have evade from the Empire's detection for so long (Shielded themselves from the minds of others, becoming part of the nature etc.). And as for the question "If Wild Dragons existed, why don't they reveal themselves to the world and depose Galbatorix?", the plausible answer would be: These dragons are probably very ancient and wished to be left alone. Another answer would be: the ancient dragons are currently in deep slumber, or in a trance-like state which only old dragons could do (where has anything like this been hinted at though?), and therefore unaware of the world around themselves. The Rock of Kuthian is even probably a dragon itself, a one so ancient that even the elves barely remember it (Arya and Oromis found the name familiar, but unable to tell). Kuthian might be a Wild Dragon that made his/her nest at, or guarding the Vault of Souls. Maybe the Rock of Kuthian is the Eldunarí of one of the ancient dragons. the name of a dragon long forgotten.

If there were loads of dragons in the past, couldn't other dragons go out of Alagaësia for some reason, like they were bored of Alagaësia and went on. I'm going to speculate and say, what if Greeni wasn't an egg. what if Greeni is a dragon, long dead, with an Elundari lying somewhere in the vicinity of du fells nagority or the beor mountains? the only support I have for the whole "what if he's not an egg" thing is the fact that his scales are crumpled on his neck, like Glaedr's, whereas if greeni was a newborn, the scales would be perfect, like Saphira's and Thorn's.

Another speculation, is that Greeni isn't in alagaesia. what if greeni lives to the north or to the south, outside of alagaesia? and... what if greeni is ancient (got his picture to back me up) so ancient that the elves don't know his name is really Kuthian. For an Urgal to be the next Rider, their race would have to be joined in the pact that currently exists between Dragons, Elves, and Humans. Elva was found by a woman. She is given the ability to see in a persons mind and see what ails them. So she can easily find Eragon's true name if she learned the Ancient Language. Possibly Angela, because in Book 3, Brisingr, during the feast of Roran and Katrina's wedding, Angela is the only one who was unperturbed by the presence of Elva. What do think is going to happen in Book 4?[]

OK, for all you thinking of what's gonna happen in book four, consider this:

Eragon probably won't have a romance with Arya - think of how many times she's rejected him. Instead, think of all the 'moments' Nasuada and Eragon have shared. Personally, I think they'll get married, but I don't know for sure. Nasuada's interests for Murtagh don't seem enough more than friends, and Eragon and Nasuada are very close...

Roran won't be the new Rider. This I know. He's already married to Katrina, and it's way to obvious to become true. He couldn't become immortal, unless I suppose Katrina died... but that would be awful after what Roran did to save her...

Arya might be the new Rider...I don't really think this'll happen though. I know all the signs (green eyes, magic, dragon) point to it, but I think there's a more likely answer. Remember the 2 women Angela had Eragon bless in book 3? I'm almost positive that they'll (one of them) will become the new Rider. Or Elva, but that also seems unlikely.

Oh yeah...and Roran's gonna kill Galbatorix. This is kinda obvious though. For all the talk he'll become king...I don't know. Seems more likely that Nasuada would be ruler, but I really don't know on all that.

No, Roran couldn't be the new rider. Or Katrina. it just doesn't fit. Can you imagine one without the other?? I refuse to think that Saphira or Eragon would die. There would be outrage! No, Christopher Paolini wouldn't do that.

Arya may have rejected Eragon, but you can see how she's beginning to relent, so maybe..?

The new rider is going to be someone who has been in all books. Paolini has said that. Therefore the people that could possibly be the rider are:

Arya- very likely, but maybe a bit too obvious..?

Nasuada-maybe, but I think she will become Queen of Alagesia or something.

Elva- I hope not

Roran- Doubtful seeing as he is married to Katrina. He would have to become immortal but then she would die and that would be awful.

Katrina- same ^^^

Orik- a nice twist. The first dwarf rider. However, dwarves weren't included in the spell and he is King anyway so that would ruin that.

Angela- I don't think so, it doesn't seem likely.

There are probably a few more but they are the most likely ones.

As for Eragon leaving Alagesia, maybe nasuada will be forced to banish himbecause he is too powerful. I mean, she said in Eldest that something would have to be done about magicians... I hope not beacuse i really like Nasuada. Also, if Eragon is banashed or something, I think Arya will accompany him.

Perhaps Thorne will be killed?

I keep seeing in forums that everyone thinks that the woman that Angela cast the bones for was Selena. As far as im aware Selena is dead. I just finished reading books 2 and 3, and i cant remember where it was but in one of the chapters when Eragon was asking about the relationship between Brom and Selena the book said that after giving birth to Eragon in Carvahall Selena left and died soon after. Im pretty sure its in book 3 after Oromis tellls Eragon that Brom is his real father. Anyone else remember this?

Also the part about the wall falling on Roran and killing him, i think is totally bogus. I mean what are the chances that Eragon cant save his cousin from falling rocks but hes able to defeat Gallby?

IDK who dies in the 4th book but my guess would be Katrina. This is just speculation but i think that the man and woman in the ship could definitely be Arya and Eragon... and the man crying could be Roran if hes left alone with no family..i think its possible she could die in child birth or a attack or something since she was determined to leave Roran once the baby is born and go live somewhere else. If shes not near Roran or Eragon she would be a target and in danger. In book 4 the details about the rings make me think that maybe if Katrina was captured Eragon would know and being compelled to rescue her maybe shes bait in a trap or something...what do other people think about the rings.
