Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., an imprint of Random House, is the publishing house responsible for the publication of the second (hardcover) edition of Eragon and the three subsequent books in the Inheritance cycle - Eldest, Brisingr, and Book 4. Knopf's logo is a distinctive, stylised borzoi.

Inheritance author Christopher Paolini landed a three-book deal with Knopf after novelist Carl Hiaasen discovered and was impressed by the self-published first edition of Eragon. The Knopf hardcover edition appeared in August 2003, and become a New York Times bestseller.

Other notable authors published by Knopf include Michael Crichton, John Updike, and Anne Rice.
